Last month, the House of Lords backed the amendment for Benedict’s Law, which is a huge step towards making schools safer for children with allergies.
A massive thank you to everyone involved, especially the Blythe family, who tragically lost their son and turned heartbreak into a legacy that saves lives. Thank you so much.
Sending your child to school with allergies is terrifying. Every morning, I drop my children off and put their lives in the hands of staff who are often barely trained in severe allergies and do not even have a clear allergy policy.
I constantly worry that staff may not recognize all the signs of anaphylaxis or be fully prepared to respond. With so many supply teachers and cover staff, I worry they don’t even know about my daughter’s allergies.
I’ve spoken to the headteacher, shared free training, asked for allergy policies, and repeatedly written to my local MP and some members of the House of Lords , desperate for change. I’ve even trained teachers, support staff, and lunchtime staff myself, just so I could feel more confident in their safety.
People may call you overprotective, but one simple mistake can be catastrophic.
I cannot thank everyone enough for making change possible.Thank you to everyone that played a part.
